I just learned of the suicide of a friend who had everything a man could want. This reminds me of that poem Richard Cory, by EA Robinson. Hello from Thibodaux, Louisiana. In 1883 the first Thibodaux Firemen's Fair raised $250 for the volunteers. Back then they had a mule drawn wagon with ladders and buckets. Today we have 8 fire companies and over 500 volunteer firemen and firewomen. This year was the 150th annual Fair. We have rides, food and music attracting more than 50,000 people. The totals are not known yet but they raised $ 1.2 million last year. In the USA about 65 percent of firefighters are volunteers.
